Getting Started

Taking the First Step

Many people feel uncertain about where to begin. You may have questions about autism, learning, attention, or development, or simply wonder whether an assessment would be helpful. Children, adolescents, and adults seek assessment for many reasons, and our team can help guide you through the process.

Choosing an Assessment

Different assessments answer different questions. Some individuals seek clarity regarding autism or learning differences, while others are looking for a better understanding of strengths, challenges, or areas requiring support.

You do not need to know exactly which assessment is appropriate before making contact, and no referral is required. Our administration team can help guide you towards the most suitable clinician or service.

Fees and Funding

Autism and psychoeducational assessments are provided privately. Medicare rebates and NDIS funding are not currently available for these services. Our administration team can provide general information regarding fees, appointment availability, and the assessment process.

What Happens During an Assessment?

Assessments typically involve a combination of interviews, questionnaires, and standardised measures. The process varies depending on the purpose of the assessment and the questions being explored.

Assessment is not simply about producing a report or arriving at a diagnosis. Rather, it is an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of strengths, differences, challenges, and recommendations for future support.

What Happens Afterwards?

Assessment is often the beginning of a process rather than the end of it. Depending on the outcome, recommendations may include educational supports, workplace accommodations, psychological therapy, medical care, or other services.

Individuals and families may continue to access support through the broader May Health ecosystem as needs and circumstances evolve over time.
