Child, Adolescent & Family Services

Supporting Children, Adolescents and Families

Child, Adolescent & Family Services brings together clinicians consulting from May Health who support children, adolescents, young adults, and families through life’s challenges and transitions.

Emotional wellbeing develops within relationships, and supporting a young person often involves supporting parents and caregivers as well. Our clinicians take a thoughtful, developmentally informed approach that recognises the unique strengths, experiences, and circumstances of each child and family.

Children and families seek support for many different reasons. Sometimes this may relate to emotional or behavioural concerns. At other times, families may simply be seeking greater understanding, support, or guidance during periods of change and development.

Common Concerns

Clinicians consulting from May Health support children, adolescents, and families across a broad range of emotional, behavioural, developmental, and mental health concerns.

These concerns may include anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation difficulties, friendship and social challenges, school-related stress, school refusal, self-esteem concerns, family conflict, separation, grief and loss, trauma, and adjustment to life changes.

Some children and adolescents may also experience difficulties associated with ADHD or Autism. Our clinicians take strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming approaches that recognise individual differences while supporting emotional wellbeing, relationships, and meaningful development.

Support is tailored to the needs of the young person and family and may involve individual sessions, parent work, or family involvement where appropriate.

Parents and Families

Parents and caregivers play an important role in supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and development. For this reason, our clinicians value working collaboratively with families rather than viewing difficulties in isolation.

Support may involve working with children or adolescents directly, working alongside parents and caregivers, or involving the family together, depending on the needs of those involved.

Families do not need to wait until difficulties become severe before seeking support. Many parents value having a space to better understand their child’s emotional needs, navigate behavioural challenges, strengthen relationships, and approach parenting with greater confidence and clarity.
