Getting Started

Taking the First Step

Many people feel uncertain about where to begin when seeking support. Whether you have a specific concern, are exploring ADHD-related care, or are simply wondering whether medical support may be helpful, our team can help guide you through the process.

Accessing Medical Services

You do not need a referral to access May Medical, although some individuals are referred by their General Practitioner, Psychiatrist, Paediatrician, or another health professional.

General Practitioners consulting from May Health focus exclusively on mental health and wellbeing. Individuals are encouraged to maintain a relationship with their usual General Practitioner for broader health and routine medical care.

Appointments and Funding

Appointments are typically 60 or 30 minutes in duration, allowing time for thoughtful assessment, collaborative treatment planning, and ongoing support. Services are billed privately, and standard Medicare rebates apply. Our administration team can provide general information regarding fees and appointment availability.

What Happens Next?

Once you contact May Health, our administration team can answer questions, discuss availability, and assist you in arranging an appointment with the most appropriate clinician or service.

You do not need to prepare perfectly for your first appointment. Initial consultations are an opportunity to understand what has brought you to seek support, discuss your concerns, and develop a shared understanding of what may be helpful. Some people arrive with a very clear goal, while others are simply aware that something does not feel quite right.

Together, you and your General Practitioner will begin to clarify what matters most to you, identify goals, and consider the kinds of changes you hope to work towards. There is no expectation that you have everything figured out before you begin.

Beyond Individual Appointments

Medical care at May Health extends beyond one-to-one consultations. Depending on your needs, support may include ADHD assessment and treatment, structured group programs, education, and multidisciplinary care delivered in collaboration with psychologists, counsellors, dietitians, and other health professionals.

General Practitioners consulting from May Health may provide ongoing care themselves or, where appropriate, help coordinate support with other clinicians and services within the broader May Health ecosystem.
